Undergraduate Research Conference

We are delighted to announce that the Second Undergraduate Research Conference on Liberal Arts and Humanities will be held on 6th and 7th of April, 2018 at the O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat. This marks the continuation of the successfully organized First Undergraduate Research Conference in April 2017.

The world today is characterized by more inconsistencies between books and real world, than it has been in the last several decades. Manipulating data, ignoring facts, hypocrisy in leadership and self-aggrandizing politics is creating a distaste for serious discourse with issues at hand. This puts a strain on civil society and institutional frameworks designed to promote human capabilities, and necessitates a dramatic reorganization of social receptivity to new ideas.

Liberal arts colleges assume special position in this battle. They are central in imparting an interdisciplinary education that cultivates empathy, character and sensitivity to community service. And their competence in producing citizens that can critically engage in political, social, economic, environmental, cultural and ethical discourses puts an even heavier responsibility on them to rethink some of the basic assumptions on which governance structure of society are built.

Some of the best ideas lie in the minds of the youngest. For they are to inherit the world and thereby are the largest stakeholders in the future of society, the aim of the conference is to hear from them, their research ideas while they undertake their undergraduate studies. Not only will this be an opportunity for them to offer their fresh ideas while they learn, it will also be an opportunity for them to get acquainted with the process and academic rigors of identifying/establishing linkages between critical themes of contemporary disciplines, understanding sound research design and methodology.

Additionally, the conference will stimulate interaction between students and faculty from varied social science disciplines. Students from around the country are invited to present their research to the distinguished faculty, staff and other conference participants. Themes related to liberal arts, humanities, earth and environmental sciences, and different forms of expressive arts are welcome.

This is a unique initiative during which students and their mentors will celebrate discovery in a participatory forum that encourages collective inquiry and collaboration. The idea is to enable young researchers to trust their insights and develop professional practices in an eclectic audience of fellows and mentors. Research projects must have been conducted under the supervision of a faculty member or professional in the field. Particular emphasis will be laid upon promoting interdisciplinary studies that look through ideas and interests. One of the aims of the Conference is to create a network of undergraduate scholars and bring into this network faculty members and experts of various fields.

Presentations will mainly take one of three forms: oral, poster and exhibits (mentioned below).
